Hi my fellow students,
I want to share with you some of the basic German vocabulary I have learned.
The words are Hello, Goodbye, yes, no, please, thank you, You're Welcome and I'm sorry. I think those are the a good choice for first words to learn in a new language. Let's begin.
"Hello" in German is "Guten tag". This actually means "good day".
"Hello" itself is "hallo". with an "A" not an "E".
To say "hi" you can just say "hi". It's the same in German!
Goodbye is Auf Wiedersehen. it literally means “see you again”
Another way to say goodbye is "tschüss". It is shorter and a little less formal "tschüss".
Auf Wiederhören- Hear you later. For when you're on the phone.
"Yes" in German is "Ja". it is spelt with a "j" but it is pronounced like it starts with a "y". "ja"
"No" in German is "nein"
Please in German is Bitte. let's not make it more complicated than that.
Thank you is Danke
Thank you very much is Danke schön but can also be written Danke schoen and schoen/schön means pretty or beautiful. beautiful thanks. It's like when we say pretty please.
You could also say Danke sehr. sehr means "very". very thanks.
or you could say Vielen Dank. Vielen means "many". Many thanks.
“thanks a lot” in German is danke vielmals.
You're welcome is bitte... it's the same as please
You can also add schoen or sehr. Bitte schön (beautiful you're welcome LOL). Bitte sehr (you're very welcome)
and finally I'm sorry Entschuldigung. that's the generic way of apologizing in German.
